I really don’t know! I’ve spent sixty years trying so hard to blend in that I don’t know what makes me unique.  It’s difficult to admit that I don’t know what makes me unique because it seems to run counter to everything I wish I was. I wish I was like that one bird in the flock who stood out with bright, colorful plumage but, instead, I’m colorless and drab. If I was in a crowd exiting the subway stairway, you wouldn’t notice me. I’d just be another face and figure. But inside, I’m like the lights on the Vegas Strip! I’m not ashamed of it. I’d readily display it to anyone I thought might be interested. It very rarely happens. Once in high school I got close to a friend enough that I felt he saw it. Once in college, too. Since then, not so much. Maybe twice. So, this is a chance to open up and let you know that perhaps your friend is like me. Get them to show you their innermost person. Let them know you appreciate that part of them. And don’t be afraid to open yourself up to your friends… well, maybe not all but don’t be as miserly as I’ve been. Stand out, be unique.

Often described as a blog, an online magazine, a journal, when examined further the description changes and it becomes a project, an objective, a mission. American Male is one simple thing. It is a collection of different thoughts and experiences so come share yours and be part of the narrative.
